Hoarder Help Fund

A safer home, at a pace that works for you.

We understand how difficult things can become. We help people make their homes safer and more manageable – without judgement.

Ask for help I’m helping someone else

Asking is free and doesn’t commit you to anything.

What we do

Help with the cost of making a home safe again

If hoarding has made a home unsafe or difficult to manage and cost is preventing someone from getting help, Hoarder Help Fund may be able to support them. We help people access funded or subsidised practical support, arranged through experienced partners. The aim isn’t an empty house. It’s a home that’s safer to move around and easier to live in.

What support may look like →

Safe ways in and out

Clear routes through the home, to doors and windows.

Rooms that work again

A kitchen you can cook in, a bathroom you can use, a bed you can sleep in.

Your belongings treated with care

Your things are handled respectfully, and decisions are talked through with you wherever possible.

Who we help

Who can we help?

Hoarder Help Fund is for people who need practical help but can’t reasonably pay for it. It isn’t a paid clearance service. Support may be available where:

  • Hoarding has made a home unsafe, hard to move around or hard to use day to day.
  • The person affected can’t reasonably afford the practical help that’s needed.
  • There’s a genuine need for support, rather than a routine paid clearance.
  • The situation can be assessed, and suitable help can be arranged through experienced partners.
  • Funding is available and the case meets the fund’s eligibility criteria.

What support may look like

Fully funded – the cost of the agreed work is covered.
Partly funded – the fund contributes towards the cost.
Not available – in some cases we won’t be able to help, and we’ll tell you honestly.

This depends on eligibility, assessment and available funds.

Support is currently limited to the areas we are able to cover through our partners. We’ll confirm this when you contact us.

If you’re not sure whether you qualify, that’s okay. Tell us what’s happening and we’ll talk it through with you.

How it works

Five simple steps

  1. 1

    Get in touch

Fill in a short enquiry form. You, or someone on your behalf.

  2. 2

    We understand the situation

We listen, get a clear picture of the home and agree what help may be needed.

  3. 3

    Eligibility and funding are considered

We look at whether support may be available, then tell you clearly what we can offer.

  4. 4

    Suitable practical support is arranged

Approved work is carried out by experienced clearance partners, agreed in advance and at a pace you’re comfortable with.

  5. 5

    Good things reused

Where appropriate, reusable items may help support future cases.

Support depends on eligibility, assessment and available funds.

What happens during a hoarding clearance →

No judgement

You won’t be judged, rushed or made to throw everything away.

Homes can become overwhelming for many reasons – loss, illness, stress, life changes, or belongings simply building up over time. It says nothing about who you are.

  • You’re involved in decisions about your belongings.
  • Support goes at a pace you can manage.
  • Everything is handled discreetly, and your information is treated with care.
  • Everyone is treated with dignity and respect.

For family & friends

Worried about someone you care about?

You can contact us on someone’s behalf. We’ll talk with you first, then think carefully about how to approach them – gently, and with care for your relationship.

The wishes and circumstances of the person living in the home matter to us. Where someone else is legally responsible for making decisions, we’ll work with them appropriately.

Advice for family and friends →

Enquire for someone else

You don’t need all the answers

Just tell us what you know:

  • Where they live, roughly
  • What worries you most
  • Whether they know you’re contacting us

We’ll take it from there, together.

For professionals

A clear route to support and funding for the people you work with

If you work with someone in a hoarding-related situation whose home has become unsafe or difficult to manage, and cost is the barrier, you can refer them to us. We’ll consider whether they may qualify for funded support and, if so, arrange practical help through suitable partners.

  • Councils
  • Housing associations
  • Social workers
  • Support workers
  • Charities
  • NHS and community teams
  • Other organisations

Simple referral

One short form, with consent recorded.

Clear assessment

A written scope of what’s needed and what may be funded.

Kept informed

Updates at agreed stages, so you can plan support around it.

Experienced partners

Approved work is carried out by suitable experienced clearance partners.

Referrals that may be suitable

  • Hoarding is making the home unsafe or difficult to use.
  • Cost is preventing appropriate practical help.
  • The person may benefit from funded or subsidised support.
  • The case can be assessed and suitable support arranged.

Helpful to include

  • The person’s general area
  • A brief summary of the situation
  • Whether they have consented to the referral
  • Any safeguarding or access information we should know
  • A Clutter Image Rating, only if you already use it

We aim to acknowledge referrals promptly and will confirm next steps once the initial information has been reviewed.

How the fund works

Money recycled into helping others

Hoarder Help Fund is intended to be supported through grant funding and an agreed share of income generated from reusable items. Money allocated to the fund is then used to pay for, or contribute towards, practical clearance work on approved cases, delivered by appropriate partners.

Reusable items

Being honest about funding

Funding isn’t guaranteed. Support depends on eligibility, assessment and the funds available at the time. We’ll always be straight with you about what we can and can’t offer.

How funded support works →

What a good outcome looks like

Not an empty house. A home that works.

Every home is different, and help won’t always mean a full clearance. A good outcome is usually about making real, practical differences.

Safer access through the home

Essential rooms usable again

Immediate risks reduced

Reusable belongings given another life, where appropriate

Practical help for someone who couldn’t otherwise afford it
